The Secular Web is supported by a number of active volunteers, and we are immensely grateful for their help. We also benefit from the contributions of numerous writers, many prominent supporters and collaborators, and the needed financial contributions of those who support our mission.
What is the purpose of the Internet Infidels?
Internet Infidels is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to the growth and maintenance of the most comprehensive freethought website on the Internet, the Secular Web Library, a virtual library of information on nontheistic worldviews, including agnosticism, atheism, freethought, humanism, and secularism. Our central mission is the defense and promotion of naturalism, the hypothesis that the physical universe is a 'closed system' in the sense that nothing that is neither a part nor a product of it can affect it, thus entailing the nonexistence of supernatural beings, including the theistic God. For more, see our About page (as well as the Naturalism and Secular Humanism sections of our Modern Library)
Why do the Internet Infidels focus so much on Christianity?
We can only work with what we have: our expertise is primarily in Christian studies (many of our contributors are ex-Christians), the essays that are contributed to the Internet Infidels are very often about issues caused or brought about by Christianity, etc. Christianity is, after all, the most popular and influential Western religion, and its adherents are the most active in publishing apologetics and arguing against atheism, engaging us intellectually on a regular basis and challenging us to address their claims. Nevertheless, a great many of our papers relate to theism or the supernatural in general, not to Christianity as such, and we have some responses to Islam, Mormonism, and Judaism (to which our papers on the Old Testament often also apply). If you would be interested in contributing an essay about one of these religions, or others, please see our Call for Papers.
Do you know of any groups in my area? Where can I find a local chapter of X?
Please check the Secular Web's "Organizations" page, which lists almost every organization we know of that has a web presence.
Do you have a mailing address?
Yes. Send all snail mail correspondence to:

The Secular Web is copyright protected by the Internet Infidels. Many essays and other content of the Secular Web have additional copyright holders. The contents of the Secular Web may not be reproduced without the express written consent of the acting President of the Internet Infidels. We generally grant permission to groups with similar aims who wish to reprint or distribute materials for which we hold the appropriate copyright or license, and we encourage that practice so long as permission is obtained, the material is not sold for profit, and the following notice is included, along with all appropriate copyright information:
These files, and many more are available at the Secular Web:

Still have questions about our copyright policy? E-mail us.
How can I get a hard copy of your material?
Many of our books are available in old-fashioned print format; please consult the Secular Web Bookstore for a list of titles and online ordering information. If the title you are interested in is not listed there and it is in print, we would welcome your suggestion to add the title to our list. Otherwise, if the title is out of print, we suggest checking your local library. Most of our books should at least be available via interlibrary loan.
If you are trying to obtain a hard copy of a periodical, we recommend you contact the publisher directly about obtaining back copies.
I'm writing a paper on X. Please send me more information on X.
We also wish we could grant requests for more information on a topic, but we currently lack the manpower to do so. We suggest trying our Google Search Engine to find information on a particular topic. Not only will our search engine provide a quicker response than a human, but often more information, too.
I am a Christian or a theist who would like to engage in a personal, "one-on-one" dialog or debate.
Our work writing papers, scanning documents, maintaining this server, etc. does not allow us time for these one-to-one conversations. But you can find discussions elsewhere: there are several Internet newsgroups where lively and detailed discussions take place, and many commercial services also have forums on this topic. Please see our Discussion Forums, as well as other E-Mail Lists.
Can you add a link to my essay or site?
The Internet Infidels often receive requests to "add a link" to a particular offsite essay or site. This is not the function of our website and we generally refuse such requests.
Note: Barring exceptional circumstances, we no longer create new links to offsite essays. Ever since we implemented our peer-review policy, material submitted for publication in the Modern Library has been refereed. Unfortunately, it has been our experience that offsite links often become invalid and/or the content changes. Thus, our peer-review efforts have sometimes been wasted. Consequently, we will no longer add links to offsite rebuttals from Modern Library author index pages or subject index pages. (Note: Existing links to offsite rebuttals may remain in place for some time to come.) Those who wish to rebut such material should submit their rebuttals for publication on the Secular Web itself. See the Submission Guidelines & Instructions and rebutting essays on the Secular Web on this page.
I really like X. Why isn't X on the Secular Web?
The most common reason a freethought work does not appear on the Secular Web is because the work is copyrighted, and we do not have legal permission from the copyright holder to electronically publish the material. This is why we do not have Bertrand Russell's "Why I Am Not a Christian," any of Ayn Rand's works, Dennis McKinsey's Biblical Errancy newsletter, or George H. Smith's Atheism: The Case Against God.
We maintain a list of recommended, copyrighted books for further reading. The Internet Infidels also maintain a Secular Web Bookstore where you may purchase many freethought and other books for yourself from Amazon.com, and at the same time benefit the Internet Infidels. We receive commissions on each purchase made through the Bookstore.
If, however, the material you wish to see on the Secular Web is not copyrighted, or if the copyright has expired, please contact us about contributing the material to the Secular Web.
How can I contribute something to the Secular Web?
If you have essays or other content you would like to contribute to the Secular Web, please see the Secular Web Submission Guidelines page.
NOTE: We will only place material on our server if it meets the following criteria:
Before submitting or even writing any unsolicited material for us, please read our Submission Guidelines, and it might also help to take a look at our Call for Papers. For us to publish your material in the Secular Web Library, you must be willing to sign a Copyright Release.
Does the Secular Web only post content written by atheists, agnostics, nontheists, etc.?
Actually, it is our policy to publish in our Modern Library rebuttals to documents in our Modern Library. Here is a short list of many such examples:
Note: Rebuttals need to be submitted following the Submission Guidelines & Instructions, and they are subject to peer review just as are all scholarly-paper submissions.
Note: For information on our policy regarding links to offsite rebuttals, see Can you add a link to my essay or site?
How do I provide feedback to Secular Web content?
Submit your feedback regarding a specific article published in the Secular Web Kiosk or the Secular Web Library, or your feedback regarding the general content of the Secular Web, to the Secular Web Feedback Forum.
If I write a critique of something on the Secular Web, will you publish it on the Secular Web?
We would be happy to publish in the our Modern Library rebuttals to articles already published in the our Modern Library, provided that the rebuttal is of the same scholarly quality as the original. (See our Submission Guidelines). Note: authors who wish us to publish such essays must sign the II Copyright Release Form before the article will be published on the Secular Web.
How can I assist the Internet Infidels?
The Internet Infidels can always use volunteers. If you have a skill which you feel could be useful to us and you would like to offer your services on a voluntary basis, please send us an e-mail. See the contact information page for contact information.
How can I join the Internet Infidels?
Internet Infidels, Inc. is not a membership organization, per se. The only official members of the organization are the members of the Board of Directors. See Who are the Internet Infidels?
You may, however, become a registered user of the Internet Infidels Discussion Board and join in on the many interesting, informative, and lively discussions there.
Do you have a fax? Do you have a mailing address?
Yes, both. For current contact information, please see the Contact Information page
How can I financially support Internet Infidels?
Although Internet Infidels is primarily an all-volunteer organization, we do have a paid Executive Director/Scholarly Paper Editor. In addition, we fairly often need to engage the services of a professional, and we would like to be able to subcontract some of the arduous tasks to paid freelancers. We therefore appreciate the generous contributions of our supporters. If you could help support Internet Infidels financially, please see our Support page.
Are the Internet Infidels a tax-exempt nonprofit organization?
Yes. All donations to Internet Infidels, Inc. are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Internet Infidels needs your support! If you would like to contribute, please see our Support page.
