"Insufficient evidence!" would have to be the verdict. As many eminent historians have concluded, Jesus probably lived in Palestine in the first century, and was executed, as Tacitus records. But how did the followers of Jesus begin to announce that their leader had been raised from the dead must remain under a shroud of obscurity because of the lack of contemporary, objective testimony. A charismatic rabbi with messianic pretentions and a following of thousands was suddenly executed.
